20th and last stage, Marcoussis / Paris Champs-Elysees 146 km

20th and last stage, Marcoussis / Paris Champs-Elysees 146 km
, Saturday, July 28: We

to complete our project. We do not know what we will be able to transmit. surely we have moved quite a hornet's nest because 'since we started, in addition to the daily service to RFI (Radio France Internationa), Guillaume wrote the article in Le Monde daily, the television troups: English, French, Belgian, Swiss, German Russian and followed us almost every day, the services on the New York Times, the direct link with RAI Radio 2 (only contact with my country), what really is inside and we 'hope to have cried out loud . I personally think that all has happened 'cause there was some good news news on that but if it' was not enough for me. And the fact 'that the miles pass by quickly and now all these ups and downs are there in front of him as a mischievous friend. However, will be the second climb of the 4th category exceeds more than the usual music. As we approach the center of Paris, people are "hammered" by the images we recognize, was not so much that I felt the "lump in the throat", that overwhelming, uncontrollable feeling that makes you feel cool even at "40 degrees", which you reel the skin, making you tear down a solid as a rock. Repeatedly to pass the Louvre Museum, Place de la Concorde, the Eiffel Tower, to finally cut the line on the Champs-Elysees. We do not believe our eyes, hundreds of people came to welcome us and the TV across Europe start pounding the work of "bombing", open a bottle of Champagne, mineral water that had been would have a wonderful taste.
Thanks to those who believe that in life you can do it all without needing to cheat, thanks to all who still believe that life and health of every human being is a thousand times more 'important than anything else, thanks for being with us . We will not have changed anything, but we would have shouted very loudly that not all follow the river just because 'so we are told that' to be done.
All this would not have been possible without a group of people who while not pedaling had our very deserving if not more ', so many thanks again and forever: Claudio
Canzian: cook, chauffeur goodness' crystalline Marcon Caon: masseur high profile, introverted and stubborn; Luigino Lambranzi : manual, driver, assistant cook and efficient organizer, gruff but fair, authoritative but gentle;
Dorian: medical nightmare and allos weave time, with its obsessive control of blood levels, physiological, continued to weigh everything you eat so Giullaume. etc. Prébois Jan Claude: Guillaume's father, responsible for office supplies and printing.
We will definitely come here without:
natural products of the MEI (thanks a lot Roberto Paladin), intimate apparel and technical specialists from EnergiaPura bike (great Alberto), ITMA that more 'than 10 years gives me confidence, Fi'zi: k, Fulcrum wheels (thanks to Stephen and Paul) Bike to the Center of Moreno and Mauro Bartolomiello, all'insalata the Garden (the family Busan), the Giant, the dellla SPORTS MEDICINE CENTER NOALE - VENICE - THE DOCTOR'S FIGURE LUCIO Bigot, the Giro, Le Monde; Le Temps, the lawyer Claudio Pasqualin, Moreno Osteria Grottino Gaetano and Rosina Hotel Restaurant for parties from Italy to make a stage with us, supporting us as well as sponsors, to Oscar Dalla Costa, and lively '; to RFI, the SRAM, the AFLD (Association French anti-doping agency), the technological protections. Thanks to Stefano and Enrico Beretta Amandolese www.lautretour.com for updating the site and this blog. Thanks to all who have supported us along the route from home or just thinking about it, thanks to our families.

During the night there had been some burst, but when we wake the sky promising. We start from Cognac (famous for the notorious liquor) with the track a bit 'in case of damp undergrowth but otherwise the path and' very challenging but beautiful. The timing for us who are riding with traffic suffer even more open 'in our attempt to work hard to make a good test. We cross a street market and we can not do is "take it easy." The usual large number of campers along the way we distributed acconpagnano at Angouleme, where a short but steep climb is' fit the slightest muscle of our body. Fabio From:

Cahors, a medieval town flavor intact, Dorian here lives there, the doctor sent to us by the French National Association doping. Like every citizen who loves his city, 'there had told of "all colors", but in fact was right: the pond and the wet channels are a favorite destination of kayakers and Valentre bridge (built more' than 700 years ago '), and it' definitely one of the tests more 'authentic. Also famous for truffles, goose (poor things, saw the end that they do to them and their liver, and wine. Even today there acconpagna a sunny day but not too hot. dedicated to his friend "GIGIO RUBIERA"

16th Leg Orthes - Gourette - Col d'Aubisque Km 218.5 on Tuesday 'July 24

dedicated to his friend Mauro Marchi CALLED GIGIO RUBIERA "A PASSION FOR CYCLING CLEAN AND SPAIN, MY COMPANION TRAINING, who tragically died in May this year:

Dear "Gigio Rubiera" you'd be proud to know myself on the roads of the Tour and especially today where your loved one crosses over into Spain. You are no longer 'behind me on the bike to "suck wheel" as you used to do' cause the pace was sustained, but you take 'always with me on the bike, on my right shoulder as a tireless traveling companion, like an angel guardian. You'll see that you will like 'today toddle in Navarra and enjoy once more the flavors of the country that you have always loved and visited.

from 56 m to Orthes begins to rise, and gently and in a sudden and violent because of the short but steep climb towards the first of the five peaks conclude that the crossing of the Pyrenees and the last true rock impressive arrival on the Champs-Elysees. At the 58 km mark you start to seriously up to the summit dl Port de Larrau m. 1573 (Hors Category climb, 1.7 km to 8.1% on average). With the track wet it down with a strong but cautious after the brow to start immediately up to the top Aza m.1.129 (up to Category 3 rd, km 3.5 to 6.8% on average) than a joke the previous year and what will be waiting 'for them to not much. A fall morning followed by overcast skies with us all morning, making the climbs fresh and softer. The landscape and Pyrenees', at this juncture, particularly beautiful and impressive, for a few moments like also to our great Dolomites. Do not go down very pious before starting the third effort of the day that brings us to 1760 m. Col Pierre St-Martin (breathes 1st category, Km 14.2 to 5.25 average). After the brow you enter English territory, in Navarra, where the Basque language (according to writing on road signs), is beyond comprehension as well as unspeakable. Dear Mauro, certainly up there you'll be doing this for a giggle. A long and "gorgeous" pays down the sweat and hard work done. The wind is beginning to blow violently in the opposite direction, but despite all the physical condition can withstand even a decent effort, while the mind tries to focus attention only on the beautiful things around me: the variety 'of the trees, the smell of wood and the delicious smells coming from homes that occasionally exceeded. The climbs the Pyrenees "trick again," what on paper is presented as a slope of 1 ° category (certainly not easy, but less than the Hors Categorie), will prove 'but a real ordeal. The ascent to the Col de Marie-Blanque m. 1,035 (Km 9.3 to 7.4% on average), I will do 'seek further help his friend disappeared. After the first 3 km to 3 to 4% of kilometers in the first mile, the slope goes to 10% on average, then to 12% on average until the last 2 km to 13% on average, with peaks exceeding the then 15 -16%. All sides Road Campers and tents of the fans who wait for the day following the passage of the "real cyclists" distracted for a split second the sense of impotence at some point you feel when you try to climb. Finally we come over. In the following descent I think I've lost count of sandwiches eaten, to try to thank my body before asking a further effort, the last of its kind. As always, you pedi last major climb, the stage that precedes the arrival of the French Gendarmerie is blocking traffic, and our service vehicles can pass only for the fact that, contrary to what happens in Italy ( but here goes ?.....), people know L'Autre Tour, thanks services have aired by the most 'important television stations in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany, failed because' to be proceeding smoothly. The arrival and 'place at the 1,709 m. Col d'Aubisque (Hors Category climb, Km 16.6 to 7% on average), that even after getting more 'than 200 km from the start and being infinitely long, we can do fairly easily thanks to the slopes at the end that only become binding. We arrive at the top (also lined with people and vehicles), immersed in fog, after 9 am and 12 'bicycle, at an average of 23.7 kph after passing 4,594 m. the difference in height and 3,132 m of descent. Vel.Max. 81.4, 132 BPM average heart rate, calories burned: 9,115.

Fabio:
When we wake up, the beautiful town of Pau, gripped between the region of the Hautes-Pyrenees in the south and north of the Pyrenees-Atlantique should give the paper a fresh departure from the "block" the most 'challenging so far addressed : precisely the Pyrenees stages. An intense sun, accompanied by strong but fresh air makes us start the fourth last effort of the author
Tour soon as we move away from the flower center is waiting for us once a climb of the 3rd category, we select a continuous series of ups and downs and even long steep, not reported. After the gradients previously addressed these may seem like "little things", if it were not for the fact that we are in the third week, and on the legs you hear it all. The wind still heavily opposed affievoisce even more 'our efforts to try to do decently. The last two stages ... here is the guide to Fabio

Stage 14, Mazamet / Plateau de Beille Km 197, Saturday, July 21, the first Pyrenean stage:

The uncertainty of weather conditions is not of the main difficulties of the day today. The Pyrenees are known to alternate hot days and sweltering conditions of fog, rain and sometimes snow when crossing of the highest peaks. You start going up immediately without even time to warm up properly. We could start up, but the presence of two French national TV, turn on the mood of my fellow traveler. Top of the hill on the Cote de St. Saraille m. 810 (2nd-category climb, Km 9 to 5.3% on average). What characterizes the Pyrenees from the Alps is that the slopes are slightly shorter but with gradients elevation more challenging, especially given the average slope betray the true nature of the climbs themselves, in that the first few miles are steep slopes "almost ridiculous," around 2 to 3% then jump to the regular 10 to 12 and more than 14% . The climate 'was pleasant, with temperatures ideal for cycling (20 - 24 degrees), but after more than 80 km of approach to the second real roughness' of the day it starts to rain heavily plunging the temperature to 8 degrees at the top. Soaking wet and shivering in spite of the difficulties' of ascent, we reach the summit of the Port de Paihares m. 2001 (Hors Category climb, km 16.8 to 7.2% on average). We reach the valley floor with seizures and symptoms of cold vomiting, but fortunately the rain stops and you can, riding a good pace, to warm the weary limbs. Become a key replenish the energy spent and the fluids lost during the ascent to tackle the hardest part of the race, the top de: Le Plateau de Beille, located at 1,780 m. (Hors Category climb of this well, Km 15.9 to 7.9% on average). Crossed the line in the wing of a crowd, do not wait for us, but certainly to occupy a front row seat to the same stage that the "Pro" will run the next day. "And out of one."
Km 197 courses in 7h and 57 'at an average of 25 kmh, temperature 8 to 24 degrees, altitude meters: 3785 m, Descending: 2,355 m, average heart rate 128 BPM, calories: 8,079, Vel.Max.: 78.9.

15th stage, the second Pyrenean, Foix - Loudeville - The Louron Km 196, Sunday, July 22:

DEDICATED TO PARENTS, FAMILIES, CHILDREN, FRIENDS AND FANS OF: FABIO CASERTELLI and Marco Pantani

Luckily the weather has improved compared to yesterday. I cycled throughout the day with the shivers in my body, heart palpitations and a sense of emotion to remember / regret / pain.
thoughts go to 1998, when Marco Pantani won on the same lonely path. Neglecting my thoughts and opinions on cyclist Pantani, who in my opinion would be inappropriate when it comes to such a tragedy, I would like to express to the family, relatives, friends and fans of Mark, my deepest feelings and memories for a life sadly died away in a society ', which rejoices and destroys at the same time, its similar logic of money and the market, easily forgetting and remembering when you and' interest to do so. I ran the memory of Marco every mile, I ran crying and invoking his aid to try to overcome the many moments that come together to a stage like that. I am comforted by the music coming out from speakers mounted on the support vehicle, prepared to accompany songs in the Race Across America this year, which ended miserably because of the smallness of human beings. "And when you think it's over .... and then that starts the climb .... THAT FANTAAAASTICA HISTORY AND 'LIFE ...... Antonello Venditti's song that best represents my state of mind this period of my life. Foix From 455 meters it starts again immediately climb to the Col de Port 1249 m. (2nd category climb of 11.4 km at 5.3% on average). Descent cautious because of ' grainy and rough asphalt up to 406 meters in Saint-Girons then recovers slightly uphill approach to the second roughness' of the day that coincides with the 96 th km of the route: the Col de Portet d'Aspet 1069 m. (Slope class 2, Km 5.7 to 6.9% on average). The feeling that I feel now is even more 'strong since the beginning. I'm going to take the last climb of the life cycle on earth a guy who has left his earthly existence on the road, in the performance of what was probably his passion as well as his work: Fabio Casertelli, Olympic gold medal in the 100 km team running at Motorola with Lance Armstrong and in that fatal July 18, 1995 in descending the Col de Portet d'Aspet falls into one of the last curve of the descent from his head violently. I was watching television at that time to follow the Tour and I have no more ' forget the image of Fabio lying on the ground motionless and bleeding. This descent has a very smooth asphalt, but the fatal point 'preceded by a stretch of down to 17% and get out quickly and safely overcome the monument to Fabio Casertelli and immediately begin to slow down to go back. Fatality 'wanted only 200 m. point after the descent of the incident was over, that regret, that sorrow.
Destiny also wanted at that time there was an obligation on the part of a Prof. Fabio wear helmets because maybe it would still popular in this hypocritical society '.
I stayed stunned and helpless in front of the monument, I kissed the cold stone and I've flown my pain and my memory to the widow, children and family friends and fans of Fabio. I carry it in my heart like a guardian angel and even though I will not serve 'a lot I want to scream that this not happened to me now, by the fact that I'm running the Tour de France, but I have brought and will bring' always I matter more.
After this beautiful and dramatic descent to be initiated immediately the ascent to the Col de Mente m. 1349 (1st category climb, Km 7 to '8.1% average). Dive down again for a while well paved and easy to start to rise by 516 m. Marigac to the roughness of 'the most difficult of the day: the Port de Bales m. 1755 (Hors Category climb, Km 19.2 to 6.2% average), easy for the first 4 km, hard as you climb towards the summit. It 's a constant up and down on the one hand and legs and whole body just scream, the other the miles pass (though it may' seem a contradiction in terms), more 'quickly given the changing situations. It starts like 'finally the last climb of the stage leading to the Col de Peyresourde to m. 1569 (1st category climb, Km 9.7 to 7.8% on average). You can imagine the joy of the last dive into the end stage. We welcome a The warm sun on the beautiful Loudeville Louron, sweetened by a small lake mountain village nestled among the peaks of the Pyrenees, and the joy and 'so much that we give to the French national TV that follows us from the beginning stage in a sprint Bloc, that' the whole as they say here in France.
Eventually we will have 91 route km climb to a total climb of 4,481 m.
Gradient descent in 4011 m. 196 km route in 8 hours and 21 'at an average of 23.5 km / h, temperature: 14 to 26 degrees, Calories: 8,897, Vel.Max.: 81.5, average heart rate 131 BPM

Hello everyone ... (I was thinking about writing of Beppe Grillo .. to tell him this another example of press freedom ...)... here is the comment of Fabio: - 13 km Stage 54 time trial in Albi / Albi, Friday 'July 20:

through the crowded city center of Albi we leave "all" for this evidence against the "time". The ideal temperature (22 degrees with overcast skies), Perri is the first "kilometers gradually rises from 200 m departure, up to 483 m. the first split. It slopes gently for 2 km before the 4 km of descent 'technicians. 6.5 km of plain upwind before starting the 4th category climb of the Cote de la Bauzi (3.4 km at 4.7% on average). Rose very happy with caution because we have to get wet asphalt. Last 6 km in the plains to the center of Albi again.
Considering the traffic entering and leaving the starting point and destination, whereas you have to be down on its track and pay attention to cars going up the opposite side, with 485 m. the difference in height and 489 m. down, we shut down 54 miles in 1 hour and 24 minutes, the average of 35.5 kmh.
